Jake Farr is an americana singer/songwriter. While he writes in the folk tradition, his background as a classical guitarist is evident through the complexity and elegance of his songwriting. Most recently, Jake has been featured in the 2015 March/April edition of American Songwriter Magazine for his song Deep Red Roses: a song set in a French pub juxtaposing a glass of cabernet sauvignon and a beautiful woman. In 2014, Jake was featured in the West Texas television series, South Plains Sessions, performing In Memory: a “Tim Burtonesque” piece about the relationships between dreams, the past, the present, and the future. Both of these songs are featured on Jake’s latest full length album, Seasons (2015).
Mentored by the American guitar virtuoso and composer, David Brandon, Jake comes from a rich heritage of musical craftsmanship and creativity. After working with Jake for many years, Brandon wrote praise of his colleague saying, “Jake is an excellent guitarist displaying fine musicianship and technical skills. He is highly organized and creative.” Jake has held guitar positions at The Underwood Center for the Arts, The Buddy Holly Center, Brandon Guitar Studio, Lubbock Christian University, and Red Leaf School of Music.
Lyrically, Jake writes about places, memories, and psychology. Heavily inspired by the works of Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, Jake writes in the spectrum between concrete and abstract prose, finding beauty in poetic imagery and layered meaning. Songwriter Andy Wilkinson, Artist-in-Residence at the Southwest Collections, commented on Jake’s artistry, “An outstanding musician, Jake has exceptional talent.”
Jake is an active member of both the Austin Songwriter’s Group and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.
Jake is currently writing, performing, and teaching music out of his private studio in Austin, Tx.
